Problem Statement
The target population is responsible for designing instruction, teaching students, or leading educational professionals. However, 90% of the target audience lacks knowledge of the Sharable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM) and the ability to implement SCORM standards into its instruction. After completing the SCORM instructional module/unit (IMU), the target audience is expected to be able to describe SCORM standards and identify methods to create instruction which conforms with SCORM standards to a level that enables the content to pass the Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL) SCORM self tests.
Training Need
The U.S. Department of Defense identified the need for using technology to provide training and instructional material that is widely available on demand for members of U.S. forces who are deployed around the world (Advanced Distributed Learning, n.d.). To help achieve the goal, the government tasked the ADL Co-lab with creating a framework that helps educational professionals meet the need. The ADL pulled together groups of standards to build the SCORM foundation. The ADL initiative is to help designers and educational professionals create training that meets the ADL SCORM standards. Instruction based on SCORM must be designed to meet the following motivations:
- Accessibility
- Adaptability
- Affordability
- Durability
- Interoperability
- Reusability
This SCORM IMU is designed to help instructional designers learn how to create instruction that meets SCORM standards. The client for this project is Dr. Natalie Milman of The George Washington University (GW), and the intended target audience for this IMU is the students in the Educational Technology Leadership (ETL) program at GW. Following the principles of good design described in our two textbooks, this project will be developed to the level of quality that meets the client's expectations as outlined in the Needs Analysis rubric.
